They are a vital part of modern greenhouse or nursery operations. Since the introduction of injectors or proportions, growers have enjoyed an easy time- and labour-saving method of applying liquid chemical solutions to their crops. Despite the advantages, many growers have had at least one experience with a compromised, damaged or even ruined crop where the cause was traced to a malfunctioning injector. Just like other mechanical devices, proper and frequent maintenance and calibration are crucial steps to ensure optimal injector performance and, thus, healthy crops.

How a Fertilizer Injector works

Fertilizer Injector – Venturi take a small portion of concentrated fertilizer solution from a stock tank and inject it into the waterline. For every part of the stock solution, there are x parts of water, where “x” is determined by the injector ratio. For example, with a 1:100 ratio, 1 part of the stock solution is mixed with 99 parts of water, for a total of 100 parts of the final solution. The size of the stock tank varies and it could be as small as 5 gallons or as large as 2,000 gallons. Often ratios are expressed as per cent. For example, a 1:100 ratio equals a 1 per cent solution.
