Canishot ARV
Canishot ARV (anti-rabies vaccine) is used for rabies preexposure immunization. This ARV is a sterile, stable, freeze-dried suspension of rabies virus.
- Our finished, freeze-dried vaccine contains inactivated rabies virus and is available for intramuscular/subcutaneous administration in a single dose vial containing no preservative.
- Handlers should note that after reconstitution, they should immediately administer the full 1.0 mL amount of vaccine. If the vaccine cannot be administered at the instant, it should be promptly discarded.
Composition (per dose)
- Rabies virus (Pasteur strain)……107.0FAID50
Canishot ARV: Indications
- For the immunization in dogs, cats, cattle, horses, sheep, and goats against rabies infection
Canishot ARV: Dosage and administration
- Attach the plunger and reconstitution needle to the syringe and reconstitute the freeze-dried vaccine by injecting the diluent into the vaccine vial.
- Gently swirl the contents until completely dissolved and withdraw the total contents of the vial into the syringe.
- Remove the reconstitution needle and discard.
- Attach a sterile needle of your choice that is suitable for intramuscular injection of your patient.
- After preparation of the injection site with an appropriate germicide, immediately inject the vaccine.
- Administer 1mL subcutaneously or intramuscularly to the animals (dogs, cats, and cattle) aged 3~4 months or older.
Type of exposure to rabies
- Rabies is transmitted by the introduction of rabies virus into open cuts or wounds in skin or via mucous membranes.
- The likelihood of rabies infection varies with the nature and extent of exposure. Two categories of exposure should be considered, and these include bite and non-bite.
- While bite exposures are by the penetration of the skin by teeth, non-bite exposures include scratches, abrasions, open wounds, or mucous membranes contaminated with saliva
- Note that mere contact such as petting a rabid animal, without a bite or non-bite exposure, does not constitute an exposure and is not an indication for prophylaxis.
Precautions
- Do not use the vaccine in animals with fever, malnutrition, infectious disease, and parasitic infections.
- Avoid usage of this vaccine in animals with immune suppression by mould and bacterial toxins, animals under stress, and pregnant/lactating animals.
